Took the pup for a walk this morning. She has grown quite a bit and is thriving: she gained fourteen pounds in two weeks. Her days at the shelter are hopefully a distant memory. As a friend said, "A little love makes a big difference". It was a joy so see her take so much enjoyment from a simple event; scents to sniff, buzzing dragonflies, the rustle of leaves and grass. Great way to begin the day. Good for the heart in more ways than one. Walking along reminded me of this song...

Have you ever wondered what happened to the 56 men
who signed the Declaration of Independence?

Five signers were captured by the British as traitors,
and tortured before they died.

Twelve had their homes ransacked and burned.
Two lost their sons serving in the Revolutionary Army;
another had two sons captured.

Nine of the 56 fought and died from wounds or
hardships of the Revolutionary War.

They signed and they pledged their lives, their fortunes,
and their sacred honor.

What kind of men were they?

Twenty-four were lawyers and jurists.
Eleven were merchants,
nine were farmers and large plantation owners;
men of means, well educated,
but they signed the Declaration of Independence
knowing full well that the penalty would be death if
they were captured.
Carter Braxton of Virginia, a wealthy planter and
trader, saw his ships swept from the seas by the
British Navy. He sold his home and properties to
pay his debts, and died in rags.

Thomas McKeam was so hounded by the British
that he was forced to move his family almost constantly.
He served in the Congress without pay, and his family
was kept in hiding. His possessions were taken from him,
and poverty was his reward.

Vandals or soldiers looted the properties of Dillery, Hall, Clymer,
Walton, Gwinnett, Heyward, Ruttledge, and Middleton.

At the battle of Yorktown , Thomas Nelson, Jr., noted that
the British General Cornwallis had taken over the Nelson
home for his headquarters. He quietly urged General
George Washington to open fire. The home was destroyed,
and Nelson died bankrupt.

Francis Lewis had his home and properties destroyed.
The enemy jailed his wife, and she died within a few months.

John Hart was driven from his wife's bedside as she was dying.
Their 13 children fled for their lives. His fields and his gristmill
were laid to waste. For more than a year he lived in forests
and caves, returning home to find his wife dead and his
children vanished.
So, take a few minutes while enjoying your 4th of July holiday and
silently thank these patriots. It's not much to ask for the price they paid.

Rickrolling? My kids already know about this and gave me the obligatory eye roll when I asked them about it. Apparently it's a prank when a link will direct you to a video of Rick Astley singing "Never gonna give you up" instead of the desired link.

For those of you not acquainted with his work...

Rick Astley had a hit song called "Never gonna give you up" in 1987. He was blessed with a rich, wonderful voice that belies his stature and appearance. Have danced to this song many, many times. Lots of fun. Enjoy this blast from the past.

It's officially the first day of summer!

walking barefoot, ice cold watermelon, sleeping late, picnics, watching fireflies at dusk, fireworks, parades, the beach, road trips, running through sprinklers, ice cream for dinner, cannonballs, the scent of suntan lotion, freshly cut grass, cooking outdoors, sunny days, slip and slides, daring toe polish colors, concerts, bonfires on the beach,
and reading books with absolutely no redeeming social value.

Impact. Squealing tires. Smell of burnt rubber...I walked away from the crash, no one was hurt. Amazing. Big thanks to the officers who assisted at the site of the accident and to the kind firefighter who walked my dazed self to a safe spot across the street. As DH said, "Relax, it's just a piece of metal".

Here's another vintage slip with a great lace detail at the hem. Love how the colors are soft and muted. These slips are so versatile. You can wear them as a slip of course. But wait! There's more! With the warm weather, ladies are wearing them as a cover-up at the beach or for going out in the evening. These slips have a wonderful silky texture; wish I had a dollar for every time people touch them at shows!

If a full length slip is not for you, I also make them in a camisole length. Terrific with jeans, capris or skirts.

Sorry, this slip has been sold. Not to worry, plenty of vintage goodness in the works!

These earrings are the result of an experiment and a series of events. A new shipment of vintage stones arrived recently. I had been saving the pink pearls for something special. Wanted to combine the pearls and stones together as the colors were so pleasing together. The challenge? The pearls are drilled in the center rather than from end to end. Not a tragedy, but it made me think of alternative way to work with them. This is the result of combining those elements. Am excited about the design as it combines a contemporary style with vintage flavor.

Vexillology is the scholarly study of flags. Why is this important? Today is flag day!

Ever wonder about the symbolism behind the folding of an American flag? Just read about this and was touched to learn that each fold is rich with symbolism. I'm sure most of us have seen the ceremonial folding of a flag. I personally did not give much thought to the process itself, rather I observed the ceremony as a whole. The flag is always presented to the family in a triangular shape. There is purpose and meaning behind the finished shape and each of the 13 ceremonial folds. TTFN, off to set out my flag.

When DH says " I'm craving pizza", all I can say is "Fire up the grill, baby!"
